Jack Griffith: I am the reporter for the Hayes and Harlington area. I graduated from Sussex University in 2006, and have worked in media planning and PR before pursuing a career in journalism. I would like to report that a detainee escaped from Harmondsworth detention centre on Sunday. It was not a daring escape as he merely walked out of the visits area which is understaffed since GEO took over in 2009. This incident followed on from an attempted suicide a few days before.
I will state that due to the incompitencies of this company incidents such as these will become more frequent.

Hiya
I accidentally threw away a copy of the Hayes and Harlington Gazette two week ago and wondered if you could help me retrieve some details from the edition? The article I refer to was asking for people to come forward to be trained to sit with people being interviewed in police stations who have mental health issues.

Hello. My name is Ian and i would like to inform you of a recent incedent on my allotment on Wood End Green Rd. I was growing pumpkins for my Godsons and friends children also. They had all chosen which pumpkins they would like, then last Tuesday night some callous so and so decided to steal them. They would've needed a car/van to move them as they weigh around 50-60lbs each. If you would like more info i can be contacted on 07852388045

Good afternoon

I ma writing regarding an accident my mother had at Ruislip Bus station on the 13th October 2010.

My mothr fell off of the 114 bus whilst trying to board and sustained a nasty injury. The Bus driver refused to assist but two members of the public were exceptionally helpful, unfortunately my mother never got their names or contact numbers. We would like to try and find these good samaratins and thank them. Is this something we can do using the gazette?

You may also wish to follow up on why a bus driver is told not to get out of his cab to assist an 83 year old pensioner with horrific cuts to her leg sustained from the bus step?

Hi,
There was a article about "Serious about science" September 2010 competition winner. The students from Uxbridge High school won the competition. My son Dhaval Joshi was the captain of the team.

I try searching this article but I can't find it.Can you please help me to retrive the article from your archive.

Guys, i often feel that as reporters you miss importanat issues in our area. I'll give you an example of a story that i feel merits coverage. The area outsde Eastcote tube station is currently being closed to all traffic. The future sees no provision for dropping off or picking people up without a good deal of inconvienience. The only place people will be able to park is on double yellow lines. These alterations which must be costing hundreds of thousands of pounds must have been approved by our cash strapped council.Madness at a time when Hillindon Hospital cant even afford to keep its corridors free from litter... What's going on here and why aren't we covering it?Why dont you ask people like me for information so taht you can stay up to speed? Alan Palmer 07961872265

We welcome suggestions, criticism and feedback on how we are doing.Would any local groups like to use our facilities for meetings etc ? We aren't just about serving good drinks and great food, we want to become a part of the community. We are here to stay, so the community matters to us too.

I would like to ask you to cover an event we are holding at Holy Trinity Northwood which is being opened by the Past Mayor, Cllr Shirley Harper-O'Neill, starting at 11am on Friday 8 April - a sponsored Biblethon. We are reading the complete bible from beginning to end! The money is going to the Diocesan Lent Appeal.

Thank you for your response Mrs Rhone.

The online vote was one of our weekly opinion polls, in which we ask our readers to vote on a hot topic. It changes every Wednesday - the same day as the Gazette is published.

However, I'm sure Hillingdon Council, either by writing or emailing directly, or through your councillors (Keith Burrows, Judith Cooper and David Routledge), would be interested in your views.

Interesting, but I cannot find any obituaries in your paper. Do you not do them?

Alan Hayes Author Profile Page said:

We regularly run obituaries on page four of the print edition, which carries all our family news.

Hi I am a committee member for 1st Hayes Scout group. We are trying to raise money to enable the children who attend our group from Beavers to Scouts to enjoy various activities.

We are holding a craft fair and wondered how we could go about advertising this event in the local paper and if there would be a fee or as it's for charity if it would be a free advert.

Regards Gaynor Classick

Quite by accident, we stumbled across the Food Festival after the day out we'd organised didn't go to plan. It was held at Denham Country Park, just off the A40 and my disappointment soon lifted, as we sat on bales of hay and listened to an excellent folk-rock band whilst eating locally produced food and drink. There were people from all aspects of society, enjoying this quaintly English festival and enjoying an early autumn harvest, children happily mixing and playing and all cultures clapping, dancing and singing along.

But I wonder why this fabulour festival wasn't more widely advertised? Also, I wonder why this beautiful open space isn't used more often for such events? The local authority could surely organise an annual folk festival and I'm sure the local Uxbridge Folk Club would be only too happy to become involved.

Hi Vicky - we do not have paper copies of the Gazette stretching back that far, but Uxbridge library in the High Street holds many years'worth on microfilm, and that would be a good start.
In the office we have an electronic archive going back to 1993. It is not searchable by the public but I would be happy to look in there if anyone has anything they want to find.
If you need any more help, please call me or email.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Part of your article on (page 6 0n 27th April 20102) read as;
Khat report available in Arabic.
The report, published last May, calls for regulation of the plant and addresses everything from its importation and classification at customs through to its distribution, as well as the psychological and social effects of the drug, used predominantly by Arabic-speaking sections of the community from eastern Africa.
Above information is misleading as the east African community does not speak Arabic. Kenya (Swahili), Ethiopia (Amharic, Somali, Oromo and other African dialects), Somalia (Somali), Somaliland (Somali), Jibouti (Somali, Afar).
In these countries mainly the Somali community is the Khat users, and their language is Somali not Arabic.
The other community who uses Khat are the Yemen and I’m certain the Yemen community is not in Africa but Asia.
So, it’s very clear who, by any means translated and printed such valuable drug report into Arabic have wasted some funds.
Thanking you in advance.

Yours sincerely
Mr A Warsame (07772135079).
