The procession, which assembled outside Uxbridge Police Station, was led by police borough commander, Julian Worker, and Deputy Mayor of Hillingdon, Councillor Mary O'Connor.

Local schools and community groups entertained the crowds, with lively performances from Indian Dhol drummers, all aged 15, from Uxbridge High School, and award-winning Uxbridge-based dance academy, Futunity.

TIME is running out for Gazette readers to decide which of two parks in Hillingdon is worthy of a £1,000 makeover.

Uxbridge Common Pond and Coney Green came top in a list of almost 200 green spaces nominated for an image overhaul, as part of the Go Green initiative launched by the Gazette, in partnership with The Chimes shopping centre in Uxbridge.

Dozens of readers have voted in a poll on the Gazette's website, www.uxbridgegazette.co.uk, which is proving to be a closely-run contest, with Uxbridge Common Pond, situated off Park Road, currently securing 52.4 per cent of the vote, while Coney Green has 47.6 per cent.

Hillingdon Council are planning for the three day market to come to Uxbridge High Street next Thursday to Saturday. (23-25)

It would be based on the open area between Windsor Street and Belmont Road, which last year underwent a £250,000 refurbishment to change the layout, removing trees.

This has enabled the possibility of a French market coming to the town, with the Savoir Fayre who run markets in Harrow and Pinner, being invited.
