BUDGET supermarket Lidl has applied to open its second store in the borough.
The Lidl, would open at 121 Cowley Road, Uxbridge, on the site of a former car garage, which stands to be demolished.
The budget supermarket which rocketed in popularity because of the demand for cheap food caused by the recession has been expanding, snapping up vacant premises around the country.
A GROUP of residents have succeeded in fighting off development at a much loved wildlife hotspot- and now want more done to protect it.
Developers had sought to build an 'eco-house' at Frays Island, off Ferndale Crescent, Cowley, lodging plans earlier this year.
At a planning meeting on Tuesday, councillors agreed to reject the proposals.
As well as 24 separate letters of objection, two petitions were also lodged, and they also had the backing of Uxbridge MP John Randall (Con).

A JUDGE has sentenced the killer of 'gentle giant' Frazer Bradshaw to four years in custody - but he could be free in half that time.
Nathan Doherty, 20, of no fixed address, had pleaded guilty to a charge of manslaughter, after handing himself into police on January 5 this year, days after he attacked Bradshaw on New Year's Eve.

THE air ambulance has been called to Uxbridge for the second time in one afternoon- and drivers are facing a battle to get home in time for the England game, with several roads closed off.
The accident took place at 2.10pm at The Greenway, at the junction with Hillingdon Road, the A4020.
The circumstances are unclear at this stage, but police confirmed at Ford Transit van was involved.
Paramedics were called, and sent out the air ambulance, which arrived on scene at 2.50pm.
Police are currently redirecting traffic, and have their hands full follwing an earlier accident in Church Road, Uxbridge, near to Brunel University, where a motorcyclist was airlifted to hospital.

A MOTORCYCLIST has been airlifted to hospital after an accident in Uxbridge where he remains in a 'serious condition'.
The collision took place shortly before 12.30pm today (Friday), at the junction of Church Road and Huxley Close.
The road has been closed to buses, with police on scene.
The London Ambulance Service said: "We sent one single responder in a car, two ambulance crews, the air ambulance and a duty officer to the scene.
"Our staff treated a man, reported to be in his 30s, and took him by air to Royal London Hospital in a serious condition."
The accident took place 100 yards down the road from Cleveland Road, where teenage motorcyclist Chad Stickley died earlier this year.

A SOLDIER who served in Afghanistan has been living on handouts but now faces a life on the streets.
