china.jpgTWO of Uxbridge's political leaders have spoken of their excitement that the Chinese Olympic squad could be coming to the town in 2012.

The Gazette revealed this week that delegates from the Chinese Olympic Committee (COC) had toured the sports facilities at Brunel University and the soon to be opened Uxbridge Lido swimming pool.

MP John Randall, (Con) who represents Uxbridge and South Ruislip, said: "I think it would be extremely good news for the area.

"China are a great world power, and them coming to Hillingdon would be fantastic, and may even open up trade links."

His words were echoed by Hillingdon's Deputy Mayor and conservative councillor David Yarrow, who represents North Uxbridge.

He said: "I think it would put Hillingdon on the world stage, it would become known to everyone in China, and that can't be a bad thing.

"It may also foster other developments with China, and definitely shows some forward thinking.

"It is important to emphasise the co-operation between Hillingdon and Brunel.

"China are certainly a country to watch, both sporting-wise and economically.

"It's not signed, sealed, and delivered yet, but it is certainly interesting news."
