Two decades of church unity in Uxbridge

CTU1.jpgTHE 20th anniversary of Churches Together in Uxbridge (CTU) was celebrated in style last weekend.

The group was launched to forge links between the town's churches and improve projects for the young and the elderly.

More than 100 guests attended the anniversary lunch at Watts Hall in Redford Way, Uxbridge, including the deputy mayor of Hillingdon, Councillor David Yarrow, and council leader Ray Puddifoot.

The guests also included 10 previous chairmen of CTU and several church ministers.

The three-course lunch was prepared by Councillor David Routledge, who is the current chairman of CTU,

in honour of his late wife, Janet, who died last year.

She was a proponent of unity between local groups and churches, and a cake iced with the logos of various member churches was baked.

The CTU provides services and projects such as youth concerts, mother and baby groups, nursery schools, lunches and a meal service for the homeless and those living alone.

Recently the group has been involved with launching Hillingdon Foodbank, a charity giving food to those in need, and Street Angels, where volunteers keep an eye on anyone who may have had too much to drink during a night out and could be vulnerable as a result.

We'd like to hear from you.
