Easily the manager of the season so far...

dancombs-blog.jpgWHO is the manager of the season so far? Arsene Wenger for guiding Arsenal to the brink of the top of the league?

Alex McLeish for building Birmingham up to be just one point behind Liverpool in January?

Well obviously it's not Rafa Benitez, but my vote would be for neither of those two, and worth looking outside of the Premiership for...

What manager could drag an ailing team up with no finances to be second in their league, after a 7-1 defeat on the opening day?

Yep, I'm talking about Paul Lambert, whose Colchester side demolished Norwich City at Carrow Road 7-1 in August.

To the disgust of one fan who had seen enough after 20 minutes and his side 4-0 down, he tore his season ticket up there and then.

Well he may be asking for it back now, because after City manager Bryan Gunn was given the bullet, Paul Lambert made the controversial switch to go from Colchester to Norwich.

Some thought he was mad, but now he is showing just how clever a move it is, after his City team reversed the defeat this weekend he is looking like a genius.

It was the manner of the 5-0 away victory that showed how far Norwich had come, and how badly Colchester had declined.

I would think that Paul Lambert, 12-1 up on aggregate over two games should be feeling rather smug.

Not only that, but Norwich are now second in League One, hot on Leeds' heels, and looking good for a return to the Championship. Colchester? Nowhere without Lambert.

There is another conclusion to this, that Bryan Gunn was just a horrifically bad manager to lead a squad capable of this to a 7-1 defeat, but that would only be taking away from Lambert's achievements.

So from here on in, whatever else happens in the season Lambert should be manager of the season, even if Roberto Mancini goes on to lead Man City to the Premiership (Not going to happen!)

Unless Harry Redknapp decides to step up.... and take over as Wigan boss and reverse their 9-1 defeat against Spurs....

We'd like to hear from you.
