AN IMPRESSIVE £15,000 has been raised by generous residents across the borough in aid of Help For Heroes.

The Lido Lap fundraising event in September saw walkers of all abilities trek around Ruislip Lido, in Reservoir Road, to raise £13,000 for soldiers injured in war.

Two security guards from Hillingdon Council, Lewis Baker and Dan Preston, came up with the idea for the event, which attracted more than 450 people. The remaining £2,000 came from public donations.

Today, a giant cheque was presented to Sergeant Steve Pickston, Middlesex county coordinator of Help For Heroes, by Councillor Ray Puddifoot, leader of Hillingdon Council, at Uxbridge War Memorial, on Mahjack's roundabout in Windsor Street.

Cllr Puddifoot said: "It is fantastic that as a borough we have helped to raise such a large amount of money for this worthy cause.

"I would like to thank everyone who either supported the event at Ruislip Lido or generously donated money to help our wounded soldiers."

A spokesperson for Help For Heroes said: "We can't thank the London Borough of Hillingdon enough for the incredible support they have shown to our armed forces, in particular the wounded heroes.

"At this time of particular financial hardship for many people, it is so very humbling that the amazing people of Hillingdon have their bit to raise money for real heroes.

"The money you have raised will provide practical and direct support to those members of the armed services wounded whilst serving our country - it will help right now! Thank you so much."

We'd like to hear from you.
