RAF Uxbridge plans take shape
THE RESULTS of May's public consultation of the future of RAF Uxbridge have been released- and a first planning application is close to being submitted.
VSM Estates, the company behind the masterplan to regenerate the giant site, off Hillingdon Road, Uxbridge, has been busy listening to and acting on feedback from residents.
Nearly nine out of 10 respondents expressed their full or broad support for the plans.
Among the biggest changes to the previous plans are a reduction of 450 homes on the site, with 1,300 homes now proposed rather than the previous 1,750.
A site has also been located for a 1,200 seat theatre, and the inclusion of a care home and hotel, two schools, and a GP surgery.
Colin Darby, planning manager, said: "We are delighted with the positive response we received during May's consultation on our proposals.
"We have spent the past four months looking closely at all of the feedback and we feel these revisions to the plans make a number of improvements to the overall scheme.
"We still have more work to do before we're ready to submit a planning application but we've made real progress and we're now close to finalising the proposals."
Over 50 acres of open space will be included in the final plans, including a public park alongside the River Pinn.
Over the summer months, Colin Darby and associates from VSM Estates, have met several times with officers from Hillingdon Council, as well as the North Uxbridge Residents Association, and the Vine Lane Residents Association.
The former rifle range will also be retained, along with Hillingdon House, and the former cinema building.
The RAF base is scheduled to become vacant towards the end of 2010 when the Ministry of Defence relocates its personnel and facilities to RAF Northolt.
