A NEWLY extended and refurbished school library was officially opened by Gazette columnist Barbara Fisher last week.

The library, at Uxbridge High School, in The Greenway, Uxbridge is double the size of its previous form, and was opened on National Poetry Day on Thursday.

Mr Lang, head teacher, said: "A superb new addition to the school's learning facilities which will have a real impact on learning.

"Already this term the number of book loans has increased significantly."

Mrs Sims, librarian, added: "It is a fantastic new space which benefits both staff and students."

In addition to the opening, Barbara Fisher awarded prizes to students who had submitted photographs of themselves reading in unusual places on their summer holidays.
The competition was won by Christian Ditchburn and Helena Zafiri.
