England match on the internet- no way
WHEN I first heard the weekend's England game would be broadcast on the internet, I thought it was a novel way of attracting extra viewers to the television audience, then I realised it was exclusively online- which is a joke.
First of all it should never have been given to Setanta in the first place- England's finest hour of the qualification campaign was the 4-1 win in Croatia, but most of Britain never saw it- "Did Theo Walcott really score a hat trick?" has one of lifes most commonly asked questions...
I'm all for progression and technology and all of that, and I love my laptop, but why- in the age of 42 inch televisions, would I pay a fiver to watch a dead rubber game against the Ukraine - probably to be decided by a questionable Lampard penalty- on a small 17 inch screen.
I just cannot believe the FA have sold off our national game to the highest bidder, it should be on terrestrial TV, like the World Cup is, without fail.
Quite who the company is selling off the rights are, nobody really knows, and the news Sven is on board doesn't exactly inspire confidence.
So many people will log on at once I'm sure it will crash and be a complete disaster.
Its not on in pubs, and its only being shown at a handful of cinemas- probably to under 10,000 people nationwide.
If this was a crucial game, there would be national outrage, but it seems to be slipping by unnoticed, and if we aren't careful, this soon could be happening when we have a crucial game on.
We'd like to hear from you. Send your stories, pics and videos
