WATCHING barn dancing while receiving fire safety advice is one of the many ways elderly residents can spend their day on Tuesday, October 7.

The Hillingdon 60+ Fair will be held in the Pavilions in Uxbridge and an action-packed programme of activities is available.

There will be dozens of exhibition and advice stalls for older people in the market area of the Pavilions, including different clubs which they can join, art workshops, and flower arranging.

The day is being organised by Age Concern Hillingdon, who will also have a stall at the fair.

Sarah Millen, from Age Concern Hillingdon, said: "There will be 60 seats for people to enjoy the entertainment, look at the stalls, or do both.

"It's been going a few years now and it is always popular, it is nice to have a special day for older people with entertainment and information they are interested in, people often get up on stage and join in the barn dancing."

Representatives from London Fire Brigade and the Police will also be on hand to offer safety advice and crime prevention tips.

The day will begin at 10am and will kick off with a speech from the Mayor of Hillingdon, Councillor Brian Crowe.

A choir from Dr Triplett's School, Bury Avenue, Hayes, will perform along with 1st Steps line dancers, barn dance experts, and dancers from Uxbridge College.

Mark Jones who will appear as Smee in Peter Pan at the Beck Theatre will also be along to perform some sketches.

We'd like to hear from you.
